In 1948 she married her husband, whose family has lived in San Miguel for four generations.
- The influence Dotty had on San Miguel is still ingrained in the local community. Dotty started gaining notoriety when she scandalized the community in 1948 by frequently wearing pants. On a dare, she participated in a bullfight. Her outstanding skill on horseback made her a natural, and she went on to become a talented picador.
- Then, Dotty and her husband became involved in everything real estate in San Miguel. They designed, built and did the interior design for many area homes and Dotty became a pioneer in offering real estate services.
