This means that all beaches are free to use by the public throughout the entire country.
- Restricted – This refers to any land within 30 miles of any coastline or 60 miles from any of the borders shared with other countries namely the US, Guatemala and Belize. The restricted area also includes the entire Baja Peninsula. Foreigners cannot own land in this zone outright, but can be purchased using a bank trust.
- Edijo – This type of land is technically owned by a group of people who live and work on a piece of property as a community. Generally speaking, this land can not be bought as it is not private however, once this property is converted into private property it can be sold outside of the Edijo.
- Unrestricted – This type of property is available for purchase to those from other countries.
The good news is that virtually all of the property in San Miguel de Allende is Unrestricted!
